After all, seasonal, holiday products will always remain popular and a favorite among so many holiday-oriented enthusiasts, myself included. Whether Halloween is coming around the corner or you are the type that embraces spooky vibes throughout the year, these Halloween product ideas are meant to be timeless and encourages you to explore your art in a joyful and quirky way. Let’s dive in!

Idea #1: Add a Fun Halloween Pun

Halloween puns are fun to include in greeting cards, stickers, and clothing. They are a light-hearted way to express joy and is usually a good way to get a laugh or smile from someone. Making pun-related art can be worthwhile to experiment because there will always people who love puns and enjoy holiday puns even more!

Additional Halloween pun ideas are below:

  • Have a SPOOK-tacular Day

  • You are SPOOK-tacular

  • BOO-lieve in Yourself

  • Be Your Own Kind of BOO-tiful

  • Have a GOURD Day

  • Be GOURD and SPIRITED

  • Happy FRIGHT Day

  • You Are FANG-tastic

  • Have a FANG-tastic Day

Feel free to be creative in the puns you create and use whatever you find that inspires you. I personally enjoy making puns that are related to food and ideally something that is Asian, so I created the oni-ghoul-ri sweater design below.

Idea #2: Use Trending Halloween Insights

Sometimes, drawing pumpkins, ghosts, and black cats can feel overdone and may get boring to do different iterations of them. If you run out of ideas, I find that it is helpful to find inspiration from trending items. The fascinating thing about trending items is that they are not always what you expect and you can get really creative with those ideas. Also, making art that is trending can help attract new customers to your products because of their rise in popularity.

To find what is trending, you can use Google Trends and search generic terms, such as “Halloween ideas” or “Halloween products.” What I also like to refer to is Etsy’s Seller Handbook to provide insight on what will be trending on one of the biggest online artisan marketplaces. For Fall 2023, some product ideas include “throwback halloween,” “barnyard imagery,” “new boho,” and “cozy chic.”

You can also get creative on things that have been trending throughout the year and merge them with a Halloween theme. For instance, since vintage designs have been gaining huge momentum this past year, I created a few vintage designs with playful words:

One bonus tip about finding what’s trending for Halloween is to actually go out to stores, such as Bath and Body Works and Target, and see what elements they are using in their Halloween products. It’s not always about pumpkins and ghosts, but intricate designs such as skeletons and roses. They typically launch their Halloween and fall products around late summer, so you can head to those stores in late July/September to do your research and help prep your store products early.

You can also consider combining one trending item with what’s already popular. One design I created was combining a ghost reading (a popular Halloween art trend) with coffee (what’s already popular).

Idea #3: Design for a Niche Group

Designing for a niche group can be fun ways to experiment with your art. Niche group examples include teachers, artists, gamers, grandparents, nurses, and architects. One thing to consider is to include a trending item into your design. In a burst of creativity, I decided to make several vintage neon gamer designs with spooky, gamer-related words:

The more specific and unique your design can be, the more it will stand out from the rest. Be creative with your designs and words and how they can be customized to fit the niche. You can start off with a niche that you are already a part of and go from there. I used to be a huge gamer growing up, so these gamer terms came naturally to me and something that I already understood.
